A walk near Jack's Green in Rockingham Forest Park

An unusual opportunity to see some of the new habitat creation work carried out in the old quarries, woodlands and grasslands on this large estate, set amid some of the most significant remaining fragments of Rockingham Forest
Rockingham Forest Park,
Jack's Green

Wednesday 10th August
10:00  - 12:30

The landscape around the new holiday complex at Jack’s Green is one of the most unusual and interesting parts of Rockingham Forest. This guided walk is an opportunity for local people to learn about the habitat creation and management that has been taking place on the estate, now known as Rockingham Forest Park. Nicholsons Lockhart Garratt, an independent environmental planning and forestry consultancy, have been in charge of this work and we are very fortunate to have Jo Alderton, the company’s Head of Ecology, leading the walk.

We will be able to visit areas of Ancient Woodland, grassland, restored quarry workings and water bodies, all of which offer great potential for wildlife. Jo will explain the work that has been done so far and tell us what the long-term future of the varied habitats in the park may be.

In 2021 Rockingham Forest Park started working towards a full accreditation from Building with Nature. By registering for the assessment, Rockingham Forest Park is committing to the highest standards of landscape-led design to complement its rural surroundings.

We are very grateful to Rockingham Forest Park and to Nicholsons Lockhart Garratt for enabling this walk to take place.

Distance: 3-4 miles. Various walking surfaces along unsealed tracks and grass, but very undulating and steep in parts, so not suitable for those with wheels.
Well behaved dogs are welcome on leads - possibly cattle or sheep in some fields.
